I thought I'd start a new thread for the super typhoon megi curently hurtling towards northern Philippines. I'll put all the links to the current sat images/info into this thread over the next hour or so.
To start with, a nice clear google-based map of the projected track with time-stamps (note timestamps are in JST (+9GMT).

Here's a view overlaid with real-time weather data:

Ooops, just realised this should probably be in the Worldwide Weather -> Asia forum. Could a mod please move the thread? Sorry about that, should have read through all available forums before choosing one.

Great info there mate! Just been on the news and it has made landfall. Cat 5? Wow!
I'm going to keep tabs too on this, see if any video appears.

Great find Wazza! Hi-five to ya! Man that rain was really lashing down.. especially at that point where it was coming off the roof like a waterfall. I would imagine there would be a lot of homes destroyed, given that the construction of some of those dwellings doesn't look very substantial.

Eeek, don't think I would be in my boat in that! That's some storm! Imagine if that veered off and hit Hong Kong!

Cheers for the Hi-Five-ness Graham!
Hong Kong would be a nightmare if it veered that way. There certainly was a lot of rain in that vid! Being early-ish days of the Typhoon on landfall, I expect we will see a few more videos appearing on the web. And they will naturally be posted here!

Megi has now drifted into the north China sea. Latest I heard is she has killed 13 people?

Yeah kinda hits home when you start realising the storm is killing folk. Not good at all, not to mention the path of destruction it's leaving behind. I would imagine the infrastructure will take a bit to rebuild!
