Well, finally did the deed and got myself a nice DSLR.

It's a Nikon D5000, standard lens at the mo but will see what's about lens wise later. I managed to get a nice bundle for £600 quid, yes I'm skint now! Bundle includes the cam, bag, tripod, high speed SD card, 18-55 lens, UV filter.

I was going to go for a Canon 450D but they had discontinued it and were only selling it as a bundle deal only which wasn't really any good!

Initial impressions are really pleasing. Easy to use once you get your head around the menu setup, nice design with the flip screen, live view is good too. Not had chance yet to go out and play with any settings yet but I will this week for sure.

I have a few pics to post later in the UK thread of yesterdays showers. Smile

welcome to the DSLR family mate. i think you'll find there is nothing to complain about when it comes to the nikon. a great camera and good to see you got my cameras big brother. im looking at the 55-200mm VR lens now but im in the process of decorating the bedroom, so might be some time yet, but the 18-55mm is good for now. i'll post up some of the pics i took yesterday when i get back from the scool run.

Hehe at least keeeeebabs are cheap!

Yeah I have an instruction novel too, had a quick glance but just wanted to play. Weds eve I'm going to go out to a quiet bridge over the M1 and get my tripod out, going to try some night shots, different exposures etc and see what I get.

Need to get working on my daytime stuff too so going go get my tripod and cam out by a lake with mini waterfall. rabbit

You got it Mike, read all that before my purchase! Smile

Excellent site that for the camera review, I compared the 450D with the D5000 on there. Loved the very in depth review of both of them.

A friend has lent me a real good photography book, really need to get my head into that.

Post them soon mate, we're counting on you! No excuses now...

Try this: Find some waterfalls or something...a fast moving river...ISO100 F17-22 Exposure time 1/6 or 00.6" - turn water into silk!

Julian tried it and was blown away!

A steady hand is a must or use a tripod and your remote.

You read my mind Mike! Smile

My plan for tomorrow is to go to one of the local lakes where there is a mini waterfall, and to try and get the silky look. Loved those images from Oz mate. I'll post the results, promise! Smile
