Volcano erupts in Iceland, closing all UK airports.

Well this is a new one on me !!
Not sure if anyone has seen that just about all UK Airports are closed or being closed as a cloud of Volcanic Ash drifts across the UK from a Volcanic Eruption in Iceland !

Yeah not good this - I was watching the news this morning and this popped up. Wondering if any ash will fall across the UK, but looking at the Jet, it'll push over east Scotland towards Norway then down the coast.

My car is clean too - may have to use the bike!

The ash is falling in Scotland, not copious amounts as far as I know, but enough for a dusting.

That can't be healthy, I don't care what the beeb says!

I see that NATS has extended the restrictions on most flights until 19:00 tonight at the earliest. There seems to be talk of it running into Saturday too, unless things start to improve.

Looking ahead at all the GFS data, there is no end in sight for this week at least! Winds coming from ICeland directly to us. Mad!

Wow, great pics of the lightning. Saw some footage on the news too - very dramatic! Still no flights over us, only very small inter island planes allowed to fly - 10 minute hops in a trilander! We have some wispy cloud around this morning but usually we have a lot of contrails as we are bang in the middle of many flight paths from the UK to Europe or from Europe to the US. Nothing now to blot out that sunshine!

Not sure if i would want to be anywhere near that though, Lightning at 300mts...get in, erupting Volcano..maybe not. Let George do that kinda stuff i say.

As far as the Ash situation, i have just posted three Jet Stream Images showing things changing very little before Thurs, will find them in this weeks UK thread.

One of eldest sons friends is stuck in Dubai at the moment, could be worse i suppose ?!

UK airspace re-opens AM tomorrow starting from the N and eventually into London by 6pm.
Still same Jet Stream but the Volcano has all but stopped spewing out Ash into the atmosphere.

Not a case of told you so but kind of not that surprsing that Flights were cancelled/delayed yet again due to the Ash. Given what the Jet Stream was forecasted to do there certainly wasnt any change in direction until later this week was there. Always looked like later in the week dependant on amount of Ash of course. Think im right in saying nothing taking off/landing below Birmingham until early Weds ?

Gotta feel sorry for some of the people still stuck far from home.

You can sympathize with folk not being able to travel, but for my money if I had a choice of staying put until it cleared or flying with some burk airline who wants to chance flying through ash...I think the answer would be obvious.

One couple from England got married in Saudi Arabia since that's as far as they got! They got married in the hotel and the wedding party were in the UK and they did a camera link up and did the deed. The hotel supplied all the gear, the dress and wedding cake and room!

That's cool they were able to get married still. Very frustrating being stranded anywhere really, unless you're somewhere that is nice!

UK airspace is now fully open, the volcano has weakened by 80%, mainly steam coming from it now. Still not much taking off or landing though.

I have to agree, I would not be happy flying if any ash was still present in the air, it's the airlines putting pressure on the authorities to open the airspace again which did it, loons!
