Just read this article. We have had the coldest August for 17 years where temps barely topped 27C.

Well it was probably the same down here too! Not quite as cold as Birmingham had it perhaps but we did have quite a lot of rain as my lawn was actually green! Normally it would be like hay until the end of September! Had some flooding too at the end of August where we had about 25mm of rain in about an hour and it continued to pour for most of the day!

OMG!!!

Didn't hear about that one Jo! That's more interesting than the mainland had here. And looking at the pic that's a lot of water. You'd think that being an island the water would drain away easier? Is St Helier in a valley?

No, St Helier is pretty flat. It sometimes gets flooded on the edges of the town as it is coastal and when we have a big tide, say a 39 footer with a storm blowing the right way, then it can flood there. However, I have never seen flooding like that in the middle of town. They had built a underground cavern to help drain any excess water from around the area and that couldn't cope either - the tarmac literally burst open and the water gused up! Quite a sight!

Many years ago, probably around 28 years ago I think, we did have a huge thunderstorm with torrential rain which caused a lot of problems - there was a pub at the bottom of a valley which really got hit badly as a "river" of mud from the hillside fields got swept down and straight through the pub! Our "cotils" (fields on the hillsides) have 3 foot grooves down them, where the rain had continually poured down!

Much prefer the sunshine!!

Wow that's incredible!

I'm deffo going to visit Jersey one day. I hear you can't take caravans there though so I may have to look for a nice pub or something. I live the look of the scenery and the little fishing towns. I like the Isle of Wight so I assume its something similar?

Yes you can take caravans now - they've changed things! I know the local caravan society president! Will send you some info.

Isle of Wight is very similar but of course bigger than we are...and we are probably a bit more commercialised with the finance industry... therefore some nice stuff about, ie cars!

Yes do come over!

I'd be well up for that! A MetWUK holiday. Maybe a week of craziness and fun. After all, all us weather nuts on one small island? Can only be sensible! albino

How many can you get in that caravan Wazza? You could pick 'em all up along the way down! (That sounds like a Top Gear Challenge to me!) Don't forget the bucket and spades now! Cool

No, no caravan Jo, but I like your idea of the Top Gear MetWUK challenge! Smile We could always tow the caravan with the mobile weather lab and complete the picture. Very Happy Very Happy lol!

Now that sounds like a real cool idea Graham! Kit up the van too maybe?.. lol

Caravan is a 2 berth, so not big, and if that many people get in it the wheels may fall off! But, i'm sure the trip would be fun with whoever towing it taking corners with... hang on... how many members?... 24 people inside it?.... Laughing

LOL, we could go for some sort of world record Wazza! I reckon 24 folk in a two berth would definitely do the trick! Smile

Well you DID want a way to get MetWeather UK known a bit more! Sounds like a pretty good way to advertise to me!!! Surely there would be some coverage of such a challenge!!! Towed by Weatherevents and you've killed 2 birds with one stone! (Make sure they're seagulls though! Razz ) Get a couple of well known weather peeps on board too ...et voila!

lol!
