Well, as we are dealing with weather here, this does incorporate a certain amount of landscape photography.

Here is an image I have taken this evening of my local lake just for fun! It's not great but it'll do for starters. It's quite difficult finding something of interest. For this photograph, I used F25, 1/3sec, ISO 200. I also used a polarizing filter on the front of my 18-55 lens.

I'm just getting used to landscape photography so probably need to swat up on a few things.

what time of day was this mate? Generally one can use this simple method:

If the sun is out then use F16, ISO 100 - it's call the 'Sunny 16' rule. Just suit the shutter speed for the settings.

It's a nice shot, looks very tranquil.

It was around 20:00 I think, the sun had just dipped down behind the horizon. (Behind the shot).

Great tip on the F number though, that is added to my piece of paper in my camera bag! Very Happy

I'm glad you found this thread, it has reminded me to get some pics up tomorrow of my hols in the US. I have some great landscape shots of all sorts.

Here are some shots I took whilst on Holiday. All could do with a little editing I think. I have loads more too but here are a few.

Lovely scenery from Heathrow Airport hotel we stayed in!

"Mythbusters" HQ - they were not in but welcome photos!

Maui.

Thanks mate!

The waterfall is Wailua Falls on the south side of Maui. Driving on a real narrow road then you come across that - real cool.

The second picture is from inside a volcano crater, Haleakala national park, 10,023 up, and you can drive to the top! You didn't think i'd walk did you???

The only problem on this day was the cloud! If the cloud wasn't there you'd be able to see directly into the crater with all the different colours of the rock - beautiful.

Nice photos there! And you got to Mythbusters!!!!!!!!! One of our favourites too! Like the planes and clouds and the waterfall and the crater and.......seriously, you are obviously getting to grips with that camera!
My son has just bought his new camera and is beginning to experiment so any hints gratefully received so I can pass them on! He is into motor racing too so he's trying to get some really good ones of that. However the other day whilst at the kart track, he took a photo of a very distant funnel forming in the channel between us and France - it's weird, cos I saw it too from another part of the island but didn't have my camera with me! Will have to see if I can get the photo off him!

Yea deffo try to get that pic, sounds good!

I'm slowly getting the hang of that cam, all the settings baffle me still. I believe motor racing you need a very fast shutter speed and an ISO setting of around 600-800. Mike may put me right on that one I'm sure. I got some half decent ones at Silverstone a while back but lost them now. :-(

Mythbusters? Love that show too and had to find their shop. Wasn't hard, quick google search got the address. They had a sign on the door saying thanks to any fans visiting but they're real busy. They had been filming something too I'm sure as the car to the left of ours had black tape covering the reg plate and badges.

What a great trip you had! Can't wait to see the Mythbusters with the TIV and the Dominator against the 747!!

Thanks for the info on the shutter speed etc. Will tell him to try that. He's getting bettter but it will take some practice I guess!
